DVD: Spilled Filth!: Live at MT6Fest 2006

Our Take

MT6 Records is an experimental music label based out of Baltimore, MD that offers an extremely eclectic roster covering all ranges of insanity. Having put out numerous albums, Spilled Filth! is the label’s first DVD release. Covering their artists’ performance at the appropriately titled MT6Fest 2006, this release offers insight onto the kind of madness one can expect from many of the other albums and splits this indie label has put out so far.

It should be mentioned that this DVD isn’t all that long, offering only one song from each of the eleven artists featured throughout the performance (the insert mentions more groups played but their footage was unavailable for this particular DVD). However, considering that this release is appropriately priced at $7 the amount of material is fitting. For an independent DVD release all of the performances are well shot, though at times the volume of the performance is evident as it seems to be slightly distorting some of the sound. The editor did make sure to include titles to indicate which band is which, so newcomers won’t have any issues following this unique festival.

The acts on this DVD, though brief, are sure to leave an impression on any viewer that pops this one into their system. Ranging from extremely loud noise groups that don’t feature vocals to ones that feature a chick screaming her lungs out (Abiku), this festival isn’t for those not open to the experimental noise genre. However, what’s even more noteworthy are two of the most bizarre performances I’ve seen on DVD. Both Human Host and NewAgeHillbilly offer songs that incorporate crowd interaction (or in some cases the crowd just seems to be messing with them) and strange electronic ramblings. Many of these bands may seem strange, but it’s certainly worth a viewing.

Spilled Filth! is an interesting DVD release that will be a fun watch for those already familiar with the MT6 Records’ roster and a great way for newcomers to find out more about all of the artists that the label offers. It may be a short watch, but the spastic performances are sure to please any experimental fan.
