Logitech has consistently been known for top notch gaming and PC accessories and other hardware. But now the company has taken the gaming aspect of their product line to the next level with the Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard. It is a bit pricier than your average keyboard at a $79.99 MSRP, but if you’re going to use all of the included features, it is well worth it. And even if you’re not going to, the quality of this product make it effective for the PC consumer who wants something that will withstand long term use.

One of the unique features of this keyboard is the LCD screen that is at the top. While not gaming, this screen will display the current time and date, as well as how much of your RAM is being used. Under this screen are volume controls that conveniently will adjust the volume of your media. But the coolest part about this screen would have to be the game stat feature. In games that support it (and provided you install the included software), various statistics will be provided, such as the amount of ammo one has available. This is an excellent feature for the hardcore gamer, although the more casual user likely won’t be using it too much. The screen can be folded down at any time though, ensuring it won’t be damaged very easily. Another nice thing about the G15 would be that it is easy to route, eliminating the need for cables. Logitech has designed the G15 to be great for gamers who go to LANs a lot, and it works very well.

So what else has been packed into this keyboard for the gamer? One of the next big touted features would have to be the programmable macro keys, of which there are 18. This makes it easy to map anything you want to a particular key, and there are three shift states of each (meaning each macro key could serve three different purposes depending on what state it is in). Logitech also included a macro record button, allowing you to change what your macros do on the fly while playing a game. And finally, Logitech put in a switch that disables the Windows button, meaning accidentally pressing it will no longer send you to the desktop.

The last big feature of the G15 is that it is completely backlit. There are multiple degrees of brightness that allow anyone to work or play games in the dark as needed. However, these lights can be turned off at any time if you don’t feel the need to keep them on nonstop.

For the big gamer the G15 Gaming Keyboard is an excellent purchase that will certainly be a worthy investment. However, if you’re more of a casual PC gamer then the $80 purchase price may not seem worth it for a keyboard. But if you’re in the market for a more gaming oriented keyboard, the G15 would definitely be your best bet.
