Brings intense soccer action to the PSP!

Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 brings soccer to the handheld circuit. The game offers a variety of modes, including Match, Master League, League, Cup, Training, and a Wireless mode as well. Match allows you to quickly start a match, or do a penalty shootout. Master League allows you to manage your own team, make trades, set up formations, all sorts of good stuff. League allows you to play a season with your desired team, minus all the management that takes place in Master League mode. Cup mode allows you to participate in a variety of tournaments, as well as the Konami Cup with your selected team, and training gives you just that, training. Gameplay consists of controlling your players, and attempting to score by shooting, passing, and getting past the other team’s defenses.

The graphics are pretty good, every athlete has a shadow, and they move as realistically as real soccer players. Any time plays ends, whether it’s a penalty or a goal, you can see an instant replay that shows the athletes in greater detail. The players move pretty fluidly, and there aren’t really any clipping problems. The different teams all have different uniform combinations, and the arenas look good. The goals look more or less like goals, and when you kick the ball into one of them, it stretches out like a real goal would, which is pretty cool. The players in general look good, they lose some distinction as the camera moves farther away from them, but overall it looks good.

The sound’s alright, there isn’t much music during the gameplay itself, which is pretty accurate to real soccer. There aren’t too many sounds in general, mostly just the ref’s whistle, the various sounds the players make, and the sound of the ball. The crowd also “sings” sometimes, and ooos aahs and boos accordingly. In general, the sound is alright, but there just isn’t much there.

Overall, it’s a decent game. If you’re a huge fan of soccer and have a PSP you should check it out. It has a huge list of teams, and the Master League mode is pretty cool, especially if you’ve ever wanted to manage your own team.

Overall Rating: 7.00
