Death/grind band Cretin is getting ready to release their long awaited sophomore effort on December 9th. The album will be called Stranger and will be released by Relapse. Cretin has released the song “It” which you can stream below, and it’s clear that in the eight years that have passed they haven’t lost any of their edge. This song hits hard and flies by fairly quickly, but you’ll likely hit the repeat button right as it comes to an end. Full details about Stranger are below.

After eight long, eventful years, San Francisco’s most deranged death/grind freaks are back with a brand new full-length album! A perverted homage to the glory days of proto-grind and raw, depraved death metal, Cretin have perfected the lo-fi stylings of Repulsion, Autopsy and early Napalm Death on their highly anticipated sophomore full-length and second Relapse Records release, Stranger.

Relapse is hosting an exclusive first listen to album opener “It” at this location, and check out the promo video on Youtube here – you have been warned!

Grab an exclusive preorder bundle with t-shirt and black or blue-and-orange merge vinyl (or CD) from the Relapse webstore here or preorder the digital version directly from the band at their Bandcamp page.

In keeping with Cretin tradition, the lyrics on Stranger are wholly unsettling, depraved, poetic monstrosities crafted by bassist Matthew Widener. The vinyl edition will include a full-color layout with lyrics, notes, and original paintings by band friend Emerson. Feast your eyes on a taste below…

“IT” Lyrics
“Long ago I spotted It: my double—every feature, perfect. It grinned as if to say, “We start and only end when one is dead.” I swallowed all the pills prescribed, agonizing how to hide when It knew to look, and running was doomed since It owned my stride. I turned my home into a trap; beneath my bed I slept, and did the opposite of what I’d do, and lived, instead, a stranger. Oh, years did pass, how I grew old, and wisdom made this true: I knew I’d sold the good in me for time. I wonder, would It say the same? Having spent the bulk of years spoiling joy with fear, I wished—almost—It would come at last. When quite by chance I spied It. Unaware, It laughed beside a family of its own. How strange this felt, to barely recognize me in that way: so content”

Oozing with violent, buzz-saw guitars, grinding grooves and blasts, a gut-wrenching low end and utterly deviant vocals/lyrics, Stranger will bring a malignant smile to those who prefer their listening sick and twisted. The album will be released by Relapse Records on CD, digital, and vinyl formats on December 9, 2014.
