Barenaked Ladies:

After doing this for so many years, the repetitive shows and bands have just started to blur together. I’ve been trying hard to cover new bands and tours to keep things fresh for myself. When I got the press release about covering Barenaked Ladies I was more than excited. I’ve been a fan (casual, but still a fan) for many years ago but my schedule had never really worked out with covering them before. I strongly regret not making more of an effort before tonight.

This show was some of the most fun I’ve had in years. It was also fantastic to see the quality of turnout for the last two pavilion shows I’ve covered. In years past, so many Merriweather Post Pavilion shows had struggled to sell too well, but this show was absolutely packed and it made for a great environment.

Sadly I missed Guster completely and missed shooting Ben Folds Five, but BFF was awesome live and even came out to do a songs with BNL during their set, including playing piano for “If I Had $1,000,000”. Easily some of the highlights for me were “Pinch Me” (my favorite BNL song), “One Week” and the theme song for The Big Bang Theory. Singer and guitarist Ed Robertson was not only solid vocally, but he had a great sense of humor and charisma on stage. It made him and the rest of the band even more accessible for fans.

This was easily one of the best shows I’ve been to in years and I can’t recommend them enough if you’ve got the opportunity to cover them.
