Godzilla opened big this weekend, with the second biggest three-day-opening this year, earning an estimated $93.2 million (Captain America: The Winter Soldier opened with $95 million).  Also doing well overseas, Godzilla earned another $103 million, for a worldwide total of $196.2 million, after just three days since its release.  Last week’s champ Neighbors, finished second adding $26 million, and so far has earned about $93 million, ten days since its release.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 finished third with $16.8 million, making its domestic total $172.2 million, which is extremely underwhelming for such a high profile movie.  Luckily, Spider-Man 2 has earned a solid $633.2 million worldwide, saving it from a lackluster domestic run.

Also opening this weekend was Disney’s Million Dollar Arm, which failed to excite audiences finishing fourth with only $10.5 million.  Despite the presence of leading man John Hamm, Disney failed to make much of an impact at the box office.

We’ll see what kind of longevity Godzilla has at the office, with Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past opening next weekend.  Check back for our full review of Days of Future Past later this week.
