If you missed our review from last week’s episode, you can read it here.

Full spoilers for the episode follow:

While the first part of Community’s hour-long season premiere was a decent return to form, the second episode “Introduction to Teaching” was about as good as it gets. Following the events of “Repilot”, the study group is starting their first day of another year at Greendale Community College, including Jeff, who’s starting his new career as an Introduction to Law professor.

After learning some of the ropes (and perks) of being a professor at Greendale, Jeff finds a lack of motivation to really inspire his students. Annie feebly attempts to force him in the right direction then some unnerving teacher grading habits come to life and, naturally, the students of Greendale start a riot.

While all this is going on, Abed has decided to take a two day course titled “Nicolas Cage: Good or Bad?”

Shirley: Oh, there’s a course on Nicolas Cage but if you mention Jesus to your science teacher you get a written warning.

Abed: Well, Jesus wasn’t in 70 movies.

This leads to probably one of the funniest moments of the entire series. As Abed tries to determine where on the good/bad spectrum Cage lies, his drives himself mad, spiraling downward until his mind starts morphing with Cages. The scene in the classroom where he finally breaks down is probably the hardest I’ve ever laughed while watching Community.

Lastly, to quell the Greendale riots, Dean Pelton had the students and teachers come together for the Student/Teacher Alliance, which should be a good platform for the restructuring of the study group for the remainder of the season. With Chevy Chase gone, Donald Glover leaving and John Oliver reprising his role as professor Duncan in the next few episodes, it was important for the show-runners to revamp the dynamic and I felt this was a perfect way to do it. Plus it leaves the door open for more Chang, so where’s the harm?

While season five is still trying to find its direction, there’s no denying that Harmon’s return to the show is making and will continue to make this one of the most memorable seasons the show has seen. Now, I can’t help but feel the urge to watch Nicolas Cage movies. “Abed, how much Nicolas Cage did you…?”

Community airs Thursday’s at 8pm EST on NBC.

The Good

+ Abed's Nicolas Cage transformation was incredible.

+ Et Tu, Brute?

+ “I know it’s unrealistic to think we can eliminate riots completely”

+ Seeing more of Leonard.
