Simple Plan- Get Your Heart On!

After their self-titled release in 2008, which was definitely a musical evolution from their signature sound, I was really worried about the direction Simple Plan would be taking with their newest release, Get Your Heart On! While I enjoyed their last CD, it didn’t have that lasting appeal that their previous two had. In March the band released the first song off GYHO, the party rock song “Can’t Keep My Hands Off You” featuring Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. While it wasn’t my favorite on the CD, it definitely showed a return to their roots and set my mind at ease for the release of the new album. Rivers isn’t the only collaborator on the album though; Natasha Bedingfield is featured on the bands first single – “Jet Lag”, K’naan on “Summer Paradise” and Alex Gaskarth of All Time Low on “Freaking Me Out”.

While Get Your Heart On! isn’t quite as solid from start to finish as their first two were, it’s still a phenomenal album – especially to be played on this summers edition of Warped Tour. The album starts off strong and ends strong but there are one or two songs in the middle that kind of drag on a bit too much. “You Suck at Love” is easily the catchiest song on the record. When I first started listening to the album I had to replay it at least five times before I was ready to move on to the next track.

Overall, minus a few speed bumps, Get Your Heart On! is a great album and definitely great for rocking out to during the summer. I’d Give GYHO! A 9/10. Check out “You Suck at Love”, “Jet Lag” and “Last One Standing”.

Simple Plan will be out on the Vans Warped Tour from June-July. Get Your Heart On! is out now via Atlantic Records.
