I was under the impression that 2008’s The Ocean And The Sun was the last time I’d ever hear about The Sound Of Animals Fighting as it seemed like the group was going their separate ways and focusing on their individual projects. So I was surprised when I saw the mention of tour dates in my inbox this morning. The group has confirmed that they will be playing five shows in March that will take them to Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, and Tempe. These are The Sound Of Animals Fighting’s first tour dates since 2006 and the first time they will have ever played on the East Coast. Tickets go on sale this Friday, November 15th and Epitaph was quick to point out in the press release that these are the only shows currently booked. Additional details below.

Back in 2006, fans wondered if the East Coast would ever get to experience the sonic magic others had when The Sound Of Animals Fighting played a series of transcendent live shows. Seven years later the question is answered when the state of the art experimental rock collective announces a series of rare North American live dates beginning this March. It will be the group’s first shows since 2006 and their first ever appearances on the East Coast.

Since forming in 2004, the ever evolving group, which consists of Anthony Green from Circa Survive, Matt Embree and Chris Tsagakis from Rx Bandits and Rich Balling formerly of Rx Bandits, has carved out an absolutely unique niche in the modern musical landscape with their distinct style, shifting pool of guest artists and unique production methods.

All Music’s review of the band’s 2008 Epitaph release The Ocean And The Sun, described the album as “a tightly wrapped ball of musical enigma, employing classically spiraling guitar figures, polyrhythmic drumming, and subtle electronic beats and textures to evoke the natural world. It swirls and surrounds without ever touching ground.“ The just announced dates will be the first time the group has performed songs from that record live. The concerts will be made even more special because each night fans will be greeted by intimate solo performances by band members as they enter the show.

The West Coast dates will be opened by Kansas post rock practitioners The Appleseed Cast. East coast dates will be supported by ambient ensemble Unwed Sailor.

Tickets go on sale Friday, November 15 at 12pm local. For ticket locations visit: Be sure to get tickets fast as these dates are the ONLY shows booked at this time.
