Mess Anger doesn’t even try to hide the fact that they are fans of cursing on their latest album, Black House Mess. On the first track, “C.O.P.S.,” “fuck” seems to be the expletive of choice, showing up every other word. Black House Mess is heavy metal at its scariest.

The lead singer is a chameleon in the sense that he changes his voice quite a bit. I’m not really sure what his true voice even sounds like. It almost sounds as if there are a few different lead singers for each song, but the voice heard most often is always distorted in some way.

Black House Mess could be the soundtrack for a Rob Zombie movie. I felt like I should have had candles lit for a shrine to some evil demon as I listened to the album. Chills ran up and down my back during some of the songs like “Voodoo Doll,” but not for the right reasons. Mess Anger is trying too hard to sound hardcore and creepy, and the creepiness of this album just overshadows the music.
