Senses Fail- Renacer

I’ve enjoyed Senses Fail’s music for years. I remember the first time I heard “Buried a Lie”, it completely changed the way I looked at music way back when. Over the course of their career I’d always liked a song or two from each album, but I’d never forced myself to just sit down and listen to an album from front to back. It wasn’t until The Fire came out in 2010 that I truly realized the scope of my love for this band.

Anyone who knows me and understands my taste in music knows that I’m a huge fan of lyrics. That has always been my favorite aspect about Senses Fail’s music – the amount of heart and soul that singer/lyricist Buddy Nielson pours into every verse is phenomenal. Their newest album – Renacer – the first release from them that I’ve been able to anticipate to the extent that I did.

Renacer is a very solid album; the tone is much darker and grittier than its predecessors. The album is filled with crunching guitar riffs, soaring chorus’ and even Buddy trying what most artists don’t dare try – writing and singing a song in another language. “Mi Amor”, the first single off of Renacer is written almost completely in Spanish (save for the chorus which is in English). Definitely adds a unique trait to the album. At first I didn’t “get” the point of it, but now it’s one of my favorite songs off the album.

If you’re a fan of Senses Fail’s previous work, you should definitely be a fan of the direction they went with this album. I’d give Renacer a 9/10. Definitely check out the following songs: “The Path”, “Closure/Rebirth”, “Mi Amor” and “Between the Mountains and the Sea”.
